Biography

Sarah Jane (b.1977 Wales) graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a Fine Art Degree in 2004. During this time she studied painting in the Cypress College of Art and as an exchange student in Universitat de Belles Artes, Barcelona. She then moved to Liverpool where she started working as a freelance artist. 

Sarah Jane's work includes designing, managing and facilitating workshops, art activities, events, public art projects and murals. She has worked within the educational sectors at all levels, with mental health groups and hospitals, with community groups and with prominent North West Galleries.  As a Director and Studio Manager of Arena Studios and Gallery from 2005 - 2010 Sarah Jane was charged with the day to day running and overall direction of the studio group and gallery, writing successful funding bids, securing the gallery programme and installing charity fund raising events. In 2012 Sarah Jane was the Art coordinator for Stroll: Discovery trails, a high profile public art project with the Greater London Authority and London Olympic Company for the London Olympics 2012.

With a person-centred approach Sarah Jane is passionate about connecting with nature and people through creativity. She works with people to encourage their journey through art, to strengthen their relationship and knowledge of the natural environment and to support mental health and wellbeing. She has a deep affinity for nature and conservation, inspired by ways of beholding, valuing and celebrating the natural world.

 

Sarah Janes personal practise is concerned with capturing reflections and observations of the environment using mark making through walking, meditating and drawing.  Interested in creating inks and paints from natural materials, she develops paintings and drawing as installations in spaces, internally and externally that relate to a place and time.
